Preliminaries

Unique Positioning Statement

For hotpot lovers and history lovers, the historical story behind the food is even more compelling. You go back to ancient dynasties to explore their ideas and stories about hot pot. How did they start? Hotpot is more interactive and solely focuses on Chinese hotpot. It also has the option for the audience to participate in the survey and search for which hotpot history they want to know.

Goal

Some historical stories, though, can't be fully proven by science. Through this project, customers can have a better understanding of the history of Chinese hot pots. In addition, customers can learn how to enhance the experience while eating.

Fun Experience

Doing a survey can be tedious. In this project, I want to explore ways to search the history experience more enjoyable.

Personas

After combining all my research findings, I have developed 2 personas (Mario, Tina ) to define users challenges and goals. They are essential for me to identify user needs and make design decisions.

Solution

Based on my findings, I recognized the customers' needs for:

01

Hot pot History

A website with a complete and relevant historical background of five popular flavors of Chinese hot pot.

02

Legend Story

Legend stories may appeal to more
people's attention and have finishing reading stories motivation.

03

Local Restaurant

Providing local authentic hot pot restaurants can attract many customers to taste.

05

Planning

IA Map

To get a general representation of my website, I have drawn out an IA map. This can help me understand the flow and features of my website easier.

User Story + User Flow

After defining the key features of my website, I have created 3 user flows and user stories to examine the history articles, use timelines and find
local authentic restaurants.

Ideation

user testing

I then began to sketch out the wireframes for my project and began my user testing with classmates. I did a total of six user testing on Zoom.

LOW-FI WIREFRAMES + TESTING

Here are some key feedbacks that I got from my user testing on
my low-fi wireframes:

TASK summary

  • Navigation has history and timeline, these two options
    makes confusing.

  • May try to fix make these two columns the same height size.

  • Making quiz button smaller.

mid-FI WIREFRAMES + TESTING

Based on the feedback I received, I then came up with a med-fi wireframe. I started to add something new and also came up with some new ideas. Making the website more enjoyable. I did a few more user testing on the new wireframes. Here are some key takeaways:

Task 1

  • The location option can be inside the history page. May combine location and history.

  • Putting relevant landmarks on the
    relevant timeline.

Task 2

  • Perhaps only put five different hot pot
    regions landmarks.

  • Don't have to repeat the quiz icon on
    this page.

Task 3

  • Don't need these two icons on the lower right side. There already shown on the left side.

  • Prefer to keep location and timeline
    on navigation.

Summary

CONCLUSION

More considerations can be taken in for the history page flows; perhaps there can be more interactions between users.
